The Gift of Governments is for the purpose of steering or guiding a local church toward it’s unique God-inspired destiny. I call it a “navigational” or “directional” gift, in the sense that the guidance provided can avoid threats and risks to the group of believers, as well as enhance opportunities to minister or mature.
In the daily operation of a church organization there are continual changes that require strategic alignment to the “God Breathed” vision.
The gift is most valuable in times of change, problem solving or exploring new ministry opportunities.
New or Changing Ministry Initiatives – The Gift of Governance can be used to give guidance on the launching of new ministry programs and how to structure those programs so that the saints are trained and equipped to function in the new ministry, as well as minister effectively to the target audience of the new ministry
Church Problems – Problems arise in the life of a church in a rich array of dimensions which can include marital or health problems of leaders, ministry program problems (staffing, roles, giftings, motivation, results, finances), Community interaction issues (threats or complaints), ineffective primary functions such as worship, discipleship and evangelism. There is no limit the problems that might arise, and the gift has no limit in terms of ability to solve for those problems (since the gift is supernatural).
Elders Advice – provide one-on-one or group counsel and advice to Elders around a strategy, decision or problem.
Board Advice – provide one-on-one or group counsel and advice to the church board around a strategy, decision or problem.
Leadership (senior Pastor) Advice – provide one-on-one or group counsel and advice to the church leaders around a strategy, decision or problem.
